I read for lots of reasons.
Some things I read because I have to.
I read for work the things I need to know to earn a living. Sometimes this is interesting. A lot of times it is boring or even monotonous.
I read things like instructions so I know how to put something together. Sometimes even before I’m messed it up.
I read things to be informed.
There’s always news which is sometimes interesting and useful. I like to learn new things.
Of course, there are lots of things that I would be happy not knowing anything about. I couldn’t name you one Justin Beiber (or if I’ve spelled his name correctly) song and I have no idea who Honey Boo Boo is or why anyone would have such a ridiculous name. I don’t really care.
Sometimes I read just because it is there.
I’ll read any sign I see. Really. Sometimes they really don’t make sense.
Sometimes, I’ll even read junk mail. Not because I am interesting in what they are selling. Just to read.
Most of all, I like to read books.
That should probably say love to read books. Mostly, I like to read fiction.
Science fiction was always a favorite. I’ve read some fantasy. I like techno thrillers like Tom Clancy’s books. I like action and adventure and really wild stuff. Well, maybe not too wild. But fun.
I’m the type that almost always likes the book more than the movie.
Or, often, I think the movie completely screws up the premise of the book. Making a movie that is only loosely based on the book to push a point of view not presented in the book (I do not mean character point of view) is just a bait and switch in my book.
I read books because I like to enjoy the world the author has created. It’s a vacation in a few hundred pages. It’s an adventure I’ll never have.
So, when I start to review books on this blog, there is something to remember.
Unless there are really bad errors, I won’t be critical for editing problems. I won’t be looking for some completely new use of a little used word. I probably won’t be trying to figure out what plot elements worked or not.
I’ll be telling you what I really enjoyed about it and maybe what I didn’t. Who knows you might agree or might not. That’s the cool part.
Why do you like to read?
